ARRRRGH!!! :cen: I just tried to order 7 doors worth of GM "K" Type Trunk Rubber from JC Whitney. The sales twit in the chat was adamant that it is no longer available, and said she double verified this. Does anyone know of another supplier? I'm really needing to get the first 3 doors done ASAP. [edit/update] I found the Rod: K Type Trunk Rubber thread... and checked with CarParts.com... same results. They don't carry the K type any more either.... Thanks, Max
Hey Max, wouldn't "F" or even the "M" style be pretty close to the same thing? They are similar just looking at them.
Sorry, my bad.... I kinda' vapor locked like a 72 Pinto when I was in panic mode.... Forgot the minor detail that both companies are evidently only carrying "A" & "B" styles out of the original bunch now..... p.s. I wonder if anyone has been able to build their doors (a la' Superdoor) with anything like a "P" shaped weatherstripping/gasket? If so... any details or sources? Thanx!
The Type K they list on JC Whitney's site is incorrect. You actually have to order Type L from them to get Type K. There's details in the thread here about it (page 2): viewtopic.php?f=2&t=9933&start=15 Additionally, I've got 7 extra rolls here that I'm trying to unload: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=13141
PM Sent. As I said, evidently JC Whitney is only carrying "A" & "B" types. All the others are supposedly not available. Your 7 rolls along with possibly another 7 of something that "works" might just do the trick. Thanx!
I posted this on another forum (Max hangs over there as well) but though it might be good to put it here.. This looks like it might be a good option since JCW seems to not carry Type K anymore.. cheaper, too. Scroll down to item #4731 particularly (illustrations are at the bottom of the page) http://www.perfectfit.com/13023/154178/ ... ysler.html
Did you order the #4731? How does it compare to the stuff from JCW?
I haven't yet.. still accumulating materials for the build - and door materials are up next. Have already located and/or picked up solid-core doors, heavy-duty closers and sheet lead.. the rubber seals are up next. I'm hoping Rod or one of the mods can take a look at that link and give their .02 - it certainly looks like a good replacement for the type K, but I may have to be the guinea pig on this one.
Yeah if Rod could comment that would be great. I have already used 15 packs of the K type (L type on JCW) but I need another 100'. It would suck to end up with 100' of the wrong stuff.
FYI - I ordered some of that stuff from perfectfit.com - will let you know.
Sorry bro... got sideways on trying to get the bathroom ready for the plumbers... I've checked the "K" type trunk rubber against the 4731 at perfectfit.com, and it probably isn't the exact match, but it's damn sure close enough! :yahoo:
Well.. bad news I just got an email from perfectfit.. they had ONE pack of it left, and their supplier said they won't have more until October! So, it might be a good substitute - but it's not immediately available. Does anyone know what GM vehicle used the original K type trunk rubber? That's how the dealers can find the part - my local dealer's parts desk couldn't find it when they looked.. they need the vehicle type.
Heh, a couple weeks ago I thought was the only one looking at the Perfect Fit option - I just picked up my order today, and posted something in Building Materials about this, with some pics of the product. It definitely seems like it will fit the bill, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if it was the same as the stuff from JC Whitney. I wonder if I got two of the last few boxes they had...I also wonder if it would be worth calling the manufacturer (Au-ve-co) to find out when they're doing another run (at least to corroborate what Perfect Fit said about availability)?
I first tried ordering the Au-ve-co trunk rubber in September but no one had it. I called Au-ve-co and they gave me the number of a local dealer. My local dealer said it was back ordered till he end of October. Well October is over and now they say it well be "several months before they make more". If anyone knows of a good alternative please let me know.
I emailed Spaceage to see if they had any in stock and here is their reply. "ok heres the deal--- the company that makes it for our supplier has burned to the ground. auveco says it will be two months but that kind of sounds like optomistic thinking to me.....sorry, thanks space age" Guess I will be looking for an alternative.
Wow.. I got the last batch from perfectfit.. and one more from space age (which covered enough for 2 doors.. what I need)... glad I got it!
