So its been busy round here for the last few weeks getting the finishes finished, Looking forward to getting some productions done now! :D
Lots of views and no comments, HMMMM
Been watching for awhile ... I think it looks fantastic. Love the color schemes! So you will have no face to face connection with performers but will all be done via video monitors? Carry on, you've all done some great work. How does it sound so far?
Its looking pretty good! Great work! So how does it sound???? - Stuart -
Yah ,its unfortunate but there is no face to face contact with the musicians, The Control is upstairs directly over the live room, so the setup prohibits it, video feed is ok though, theres no latency as the cameras just direct feed the tvs, so its ok for the time being. Luckily enough the tvs have a facility to record devices direct onto a hard drive so thats pretty cool! The cameras also have mics in em so i get talk back into the bargain ( i didnt know that when i bought em ! so bonus there.) The glass doors dont seem to be very soundproof in the human voice range or in the low frequencies but in the very high end (where i need serious isolation from the plastic roof and rain noise outside) they work a treat (they were designed with this in mind so i guess the guy did a good job. We had a band in over the last few days recording some covers and the place sounds good to me. (but being a beginner really, what would i know!) Its definitly a different world of sound than it was before i started. One thing i did notice was when the bands bass player was playing, a bit of sound was leaking (from his huge ampeg rig) from below up into the cr. (guess i should have went with the hat tracks and new ceiling after all) but ya make your calls and then live with em so onward and upward. I will post an mp3 of one of the recordings so ye folks can mock me! (tried but the exstension mp3 is not allowed any thoughts?) I still havent had the chance to do any serious sound checks but a pal of mine who has the nessecary gear and experience is going to help me out next week for a day or two just to make sure there are no major accoustic problems.
Anyone know if its possible to load an mp3 up to the forum somehow?
yes you can but the 800kb attachment size restriction might be a problem.
Hi guys, Just wanted to say thanks a million for all the help i got in the forum over the last year os two. The studio is up and running now and we have had five different projects in the last few months. I gotta say, in my humble opinion the rooms sound just great. Dont seem to be having any major problems at all, The Isolation to the outside world is as good as if not better than i had hoped for! I tryed to post some of the work on this site but it wouldnt allow me upload any decent size mp3 file so heres a link. The Dubby stuff is my own ongoing project. The drums on the other hand are a customers. http://soundcloud.com/the-dub-doctor Live percs like this are notoriously hard to record so i would be most interested in what people think of my efforts. Hope all are well. Blessings DF
The live percussion sounds good to me, albeit a little "small room" in sound ( i say this with some experience in the small room recording category). But I'm sure you can do what you (or the customer) like with reverb. I think there is good definition between instruments. I think your build came out great! Best of luck with your recordings! edit - please don't interpret my statement as some know-it-all type thing as I'm surely not. Perhaps the phrase 'small room' should be edited to 'dry room' sound? Anyhow, just wanted to clarify.
Hi Just to let folks know, The percussion tracks were recorded live in a very small room!! There wasnt a huge amount of care given to the setup of mics etc.. They are just scratch tracks for a customer which we recorded 17 tracks in one day and done some overdubs the next day with Bodhran and Cajun drums. In the room at the time there was live, 4 people. One guy playing a set of three senagalese Dun Dun drums. (one rode M3 centre overhead mono ) very loud and bassy. Two Guys with Very very sharp, highly tuned Ghanian Djembe drums on either side (overhead stereo set again rode M3s) And one guy playing 5 bells just using ambient from all three mics to be captured. It was massively loud in there!!!!!! I gotta say i am delighted with the tracks I was expecting them to be really muddy with the setup i used and they actually bettered my expectations ten fold. Also on a very sweet point, in full swing, they were barely audible in my garden which means also my isolation / soundproofing is much much better than i had anticipated!!!!! I have some folk musicians in today to start an album and a few more projects lined up in the next few months, Life is good. I owe a lot to this forum and the help and advice i recieved on it. (hate to even imagine where i would be if i went my own way) So Big up to everyone on the site but most especially Xspace for his constant patience and clear concise help!!!! and John, expect a donation soon!!
so glad to hear you are happy with your new studio. :thu: cheers john
Sprig designs and produces media campaigns are always good. Because they chose the right format to tell your story, be it fiction or fact, to be shown on the web or on the big screen. So it is great idea to build sprig production studio. Door and design looking nice.
