Hi again, I'm in the process of building a studio - details in the contruction section HERE and am wondering if my room ratios are really that bad. Control room dimensions are: 2.35m H x 4m W x 5.9m L (averaged as the walls and ceiling are slanted). If I calculate correctly that give a room ratio of 1 - 1.70 - 2.51, and am out of my depth to know if that's OK or not... anyone would have the knowledge necessary to know a way or the other? Cheers!
Hi Jim, thanks for posting this very useful link. Very useful to some people I'm sure. But just to put things in perspective, once someone talked to me in Inuit. I understood more than what I understand reading the results there.
Point taken, and really I am with you in my abilities to read the data. But at the very bottom there is a graph and when I put in your dimensions it made a "good" graph! Cheers, Jim
Jim, good I understand ta! So the bit dropping on the right of it just after the peak is not bad?
I can't open Bob site..... convert to feet (damn yanks!) enter in your measurments. If you have to many matching modes, alter them till you don't. BUT, you've got a room with X Y X. Your recording VOX overs....just go with it.

The way I see it, that isn't a bad ratio. It isn't fantastic, but it isn't bad either. You have a few isolated modes down in the low end, but nothing to be overly concerned about. You also mentioned splayed walls and an angles ceiling, so that will help somewhat. I assume that you are talking about the dimensions of the INNER leaf? The final finished surfaces of the inner leaf, before adding any treatment? - Stuart -
Lillith ta so much, nice tool, did what you said, but don't know how to check matching modes... Here are the pretty coloured curves thingy, and the other dots table, is it good doctor? The numbers on the modes page under the dots table are meaningless to me! By trade I'm the guy who talks in the mic so what the guy on the other side of the glass does is kinda mystery but as I'm building a studio the learning curve is steep to say the least! I plan to use it for VOs but also for singers, and then for mixing also, hence why I want the sound in the CR to be pukka!

Stuart, actually without he treatment (and with pushing the wall a tad) I get: cms: L: 620 x W: 405 x H: 240 Ft/In L: 20.01 x W: 13.29 x H: 7.87 I've put the plans below (still evolved a bit since the last one I posted on the construction thread) so you get a precise picture of the whole thing. Thanks again guys (yes I know Lillith you're a gal  )

I used that calculator and didn't understand much but everything was green, with one or two yellows and no reds....so i figured it was pretty good. I also got this RT60 (ITU/EBU Control Room Recommended): 186 ms - ±50ms from 200Hz to 4kHz = 136 to 236ms - <+300ms at 63hz = 486ms - 200<RT60<400ms Absorbtion to achieve ITU RT60: 385 sabins
