hi!
i open this topic for a specific problem, even if there is another topic open for my design and planning for the new studio. (other thread)
i have a room with corners like these
using tubular-like bass traps like these
Recovered from web.archive.org — originally hosted at http://www.silentsource.com/images/tubetrap_original.jpgwould be a problem because one of them would be placed very near the heater, and the heating efficiency of the room would be greatly lowered...
so the question is: what about hanging rectangular shaped bass traps in the corner, above the heating element?
something like a 60cm x 100 cm bass trap placed inclined with the respect to the wall, and more or less 1 meter high with respect to the floor.
for example, something like the ones placed at the corners of this room (smaller and with the lower part of the wall uncovered):
Recovered from web.archive.org — originally hosted at http://www.realtraps.com/cust_schmidt.jpgi could even build panels that go up to the ceiling
is there a correct heigth to place bass traps to make them effective??
would this be a wise solution?
then, i also discovered products like this:

That would help, yes. Make them THICK. But you might need to figure out some way of building / mounting / treating them so that they are not damaged by the heat from that heater.

Make it as big as possible, from just above the heater, all the way up to the ceiling, and also wide and deep. You need as much trapping as you can possibly fit in.
i could even build panels that go up to the ceiling
That would be excellent.
is there a correct heigth to place bass traps to make them effective??
Yes! The correct height is: "all the way from the floor to the ceiling"!!! :) Or as much of that as you can manage.
would this be a wise solution?
Very wise!
i could place these object at each of the 4 corners of the ceiling.
would it be effective?
Yes it would, but those manufactured units are expensive, and you are on tight budget. You can make something siliar yourself with a large triangular frame of wood that fits exactly across the "tri-corner", and fill it with thick rock wool or fiberglass. Put wire or string across the front to keep the insulation in place, and cover over that with acoustic cloth, or some similar type of fabric. Much cheaper, and just as effective.
You seem to have the right idea!

thanks a lot! :-)
actually the trap on the left (above the heater) could be bigger that the one on the left (beside the window).
would it be useful to make 2 asymmetrical bass traps and to use most of the space i can use for the each trap, avoiding symmetry for left and right traps?
would it be useful to make 2 asymmetrical bass traps and to use most of the space i can use for the each trap,
Ethan can probably answer that one much better than I can, but to my mind, symmetry is very important, so I think I'd try to treat the room symmetrically. Just make up for that "missing" trap on the left by installing another trap somewhere else, in a symmetrical location.
