I've posted my room and info in the design forum: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=11532 I was doing some SketchUpping and came up with something that I thing could be quite alright, but I want some critisism about whats a "no, don't do that" and "yes, that might be a good idea" sketchup to large for forum, hosted on my website: http://www.shefakedthehalo.com/studio/studio-mkII.skp If you read my first post (and follow up post) you'll get some more info on the room. Red = Superchunks that is 60x60, filled with 50kg/m3 rockwool, covered with a thin fabric Green = Superchunks thar are 30x30, filled with 50kg/m3 rockwool covered with thin fabric Question: - Since the red superchunks are a bit expensive i was wandering if the green ones would only give me a 1/4 of the results the red one does (since i can make 4 green ones for the same amount of wool as I would use for one red one) - Should i Maybe just make regular corner traps, like those instead of all those superchunks (how is the performance vs. cost differences between superchunk and corner traps) People have been going on and on about trapping the corners.. There i have a trap in every corner, (besides from where the closets are and on the main floor. They would get in the way and get damaged) Would I benefit from putting a small superchunk-type trap next to the closet, in the corner between the closet and the door. how do you think those green supertrap layout is (just now i was thinking that superchunks at the top might be a bit difficult, since they would be hangin in the cloth. Maybe they should just be like the absorbers (only 30x120 instead of 60x120) over the corner (with just air in the back) I won't do this much to the room (at least not for starters, maybe i'll add up once in a while), but since I had extra time i just designed things pretty far to see if it's any good) The table was problematic (since it coused a lot of reflection) but I think this solution will be pretty nice (thats a 75mm 50kg/mm2 rockwool that I plan to cover with thin fabric), It is a single unit of 120x60 cut in half, and then a part taken from the corners (if you look at the images in the first thread you'll see that there are electric outlets and switches at the corners of the table), any comment on that (since I really don't want to get another table... this one is awesome !) I decided to design the entire absorbers out of a single 120x60x7.5cm rockwool units. The frame is a 4x2cm wood (should I rather use some other size for the frame ?) since this won't be my permanent room (not sure how long I got it) and I want to be able to take all the absorbers, and rearranging them in any room I'd get in. Posted a picture. Questions: - Is fiberglass and rockwool the same thing ? - Is 50kg/m3 suitable for everything I want to do, or should I use different densitys for different applications (like denser in the superchunks and lighter in the absorbers)? I've been reading alot about things like "701, 703, 501" and so on (I just guessed random numbers) and have no Idea what they mean.. Are they different densities ? And then what is the ratio between those numbers and 50kg/m3 (everything I see in iceland is density-measured in kg/m3) - How is the design of these absorbers ? - The frame is 4cm deep, but the wool is 7.5cm deep is that good/bad ? - The foot is the same 4cm wood as in the frames (meaning there would be a 0.5cm space between the back of the wool to the wall), is that good or bad ? Should it be up against the wall, or further away, should i maybe keep the foot of the absorbers different length in the left and right side (so they would aim a little bit to the front of the room/monitors) - I was going to keep the wool in the frame using light fabric, since the wool is 3.5cm thicker than the frame, i was going to staple the backside to the frame using fabric. I was planning on puttin the front cloth on first (stapling it to the inside of the frame but not on the front, for looks), then putting the frame face down on the floor, putting in the wool and then putting cloth rather across the backside and stapling it to the backf of the frame Does it have to be tight, or is it OK if the wool is visable from the backside ? Do i get dust and stuff if the backside is open ? Back to the arrangement of the room. The "head" on the picture is 38% room depth away from the front wall (isn't that the referance point ?) Just becouse I can, should i put the sofa in the 38% from the back of the room (would that be the second best place in the room for a secondary listener ?) The speaker position is 2m from the center of the cone to the center, to the center of the "head", perfect triangle. Question: - Should the monitors be closer/further from the wall, should monitor placement be different If the red superchunks weren't there Becouse of the windows on the left I didn't put any absorbers on the right (trying to keep simmetry, since there will be some reflections from the window that I can't do anything about) and I plan to put some guitar hangars on the right wall, above my rack (yes, i know it's hanging in mid-air :P) There are rolling curtains for the windows. Maybe I should get the same kind of curtains on the opposite wall, for symmetrical reasons (that should make the reflection from the window and left wall more similar. Question: - How is that cloud ? should it be a different design from the wall absorbers, as I said I was trying to design everything out of the same units. Should I make it bigger, should it be thicker, higher, lower, wider, longer ? - Should I maybe put another cloud in the back of the room (ca. above the sofa), should that be any different from the first one ? thicker, higler, lower, wider, longer ? - Should I put maybe like a chicken-net between the rockwool and the cloth for mor strenght. - Should I make the clouds "overlap" Last thing: It would be great if someone got the sketchup file, and moved around things that you would suggest (for example if the monitors should be positioned otherwise and so on), and put numbers on every treatment I've got about importance (so If i would do only half, what should I do first and what could I leave out) Let me know if there's anything you want to know :)
