Dear all,
I’m in the early stages of planning a small music workshop/studio. Unfortunately, the room I will use is almost quadratic. I don’t have the exact measurements yet, but according to its schematic it is about 3600mm x 3500mm (don’t know the height yet, but it should be somewhere around 2500-2600mm). Now, I’ve read that this quadratic business is a bad thing, but I haven’t found a comprehensive guide as to how bad it is, what it (in general) will result in when actually mixing/mastering music in such a room, and what (again, in general) can be done about it. I could swear I’ve seen the answer somewhere in this forum or in one of the guides, but I can’t seem to find it. Any chance some of you could shed some light upon this topic? It would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Linus Leonard
Quadratic room: How bad is it, and what can be done?

Hi Linus. I think you need to search the forum for "room ratios", and see what you can find. There are also several room mode calculators that you can use with the exact dimensions of your room, and they will tell you how bad your problem will be for any given set of dimensions.
In the worst case, you can always move one of your walls inwards, to get a better ratio.
