This is one of the buildings I really like design wise!
Post some pictures when you get it finished! Looks really slick.
Horizon Sound...construction begins

...shocked and saddened at the loss of legendary Melbourne guitarist, Rowland Howard this morning. Such a genius, and influence for many of the bands I have worked with.
Hadn't heard that....that's terrible. Liver cancer wins out again...
I recently watched a documentary which focused on his work with Nick Cave on his days Birthday Party days. I knew he'd cancelled his upcoming shows in Melbourne but didn't realise how sick he was.
Big influence on myself and a lot of others.
Well this was exciting, moving the gear in. Have had the last week of work, and the place to myself, so have managed to get it almost done. Waiting on the electrician, and the glass...add the panel absorbers, then complete!!!!
I still can't believe that it's almost over, and now i'll have to find something to do with my spare time (and money)...oh yeah, got a recording studio now I can use.
Need to get the air conditioning in, as the main windows face west, and it cooks this time of year.
more pics
Here's a few more photos of the studio, after half of the treatment has been installed.
A few very loud bands have recorded in here live, and the isolation is pretty good.
Still need to install the optional second door which should kill most of that....and air con.
All I have to say is that this looks very sexy!
It's been a while since I've dropped by.
This is how the studio is looking, having been lived in for four years now.
The major change internally was the Amek Angela desk, and Otari MTR-90 II tape machine.
I really should have built the studio twice the size!!!
Hi,
Great looking studio! Nice work!
I have a question about your soffit mounts, I am in the final (I think?) phases of design and am planning on implementing soffit mounted speakers. I have a pair of Event 20/20 passives as well. It looks likes you just built more or less a shelf in the wall and framed it for the 20/20s, is this the case? Did you decouple the speaker from the baffle? It is hard to tell from the pictures exactly what you did....
And more importantly what are you powering them with and how do they sound?
I also have a pair of JBLlsr28ps but they are not suitable for soffits, I was going to sell them and get some Adams but seeing your 20/20s in soffits has piqued my curiosity.
Once again, very sharp looking room you have!
Allen
Hi,
Just wanted to say that your build looks awesome!
I actually did the framing all by myself for my build (6" framing) and i have to say that i will never do that again. Was really, really hard to get the longest ones (over 6 meters) straight all by myself. :D -JuhoHere comes the frame. I thought i'd be able to handle this one on my own, but had to call in some extra help. Almost got it done until the rain came.
Hi Allen, The speakers are not decoupled from the baffle. You're right, it was effectively a size-to-size bookshelf. The speakers are a little 'tight' in the walls. I'm not sure if i wanted to get them out i could. They are being powered by an Alesis RA-100. Not that thrilled with it (the amp), but have a Yamaha P-2200 i'd like to recap and use instead. I find there is a bit of a hole in their response around 80Hz, which I always under-compensate for. It might also be just the room.Hi, Did you decouple the speaker from the baffle? Hi Juho, Agreed, I would never attempt this again! However I'm pretty amazed that it got done, mostly with my own hands. Something to be proud of. Cheers, Anthony.Hi, Just wanted to say that your build looks awesome! I actually did the framing all by myself for my build (6" framing) and i have to say that i will never do that again. Thanks for the info!
I'm thinking I am going to sell my JBL's and get some Adam A7x or F7s soffit mount them and keep my 20/20s as a reference.
Thanks again,
Allen
