Hi, I'm James Smith form Sth. Louisiana.
I started a thread a while back that includes some pictures and ideas I had then: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewt ... highlight=
My fixed exterior dimensions are 25' x 20' with 9' ceilings.
It will be Brick vaneer exterior with double stud wall construction for isolation purposes.
I can't get settled on a floor plan.
Here's my design based off John's Sonar design.
Given my dimensions, any suggestions to better utilize my available space?
I'd like a vocal booth control room, and live room, but maybe I'd be better off with a small vocal booth, and do everything else in a larger control room. Suggestions?
James
Studio layout opinions please

Here's the other idea
By the way...The East or left side of this drawing is where the room will attatch to my house. I'm converting a 20' x 7' x 9' storage space into a bathroom on one end and storage on the other. Here's that drawing.
At first glance I like idea number 1. Symmetry in the control room. Have you considered angling the control room and having the vocal booth as a triangle in the corner? How important is the vocal booth? I would prefer a single larger tracking room with variable acoustics.
Andre
Hi Andre, and thanks for the response...any way you could post a sketch or drawing of your idea?
Thanks
Almost the same size as your spacein this thread here. AndreHi Andre, and thanks for the response...any way you could post a sketch or drawing of your idea?
Here's a drawing based off your idea. I think I like it best so far Thanks so much!
The concept looks great! Just in case you don't know it already, make the shell of the control room left/symmetrical as much as possible as you get into detailed design.
Andre
I've been tweaking the measurments, trying to maximize the space.
2 questions:
1. Am I missing anything?
2. Can someone suggest treatments for this studio?
Overall concept looks good.
The control room is deep enough that you can use diffusion on the rear wall.
The 17'6" length is close to twice the 9' height. Reduce the length to at at max 17'.
I am assuming the outside walls are double leaf and the CAD program is shading the space.

So it needs to be 17' before rear wall tretment is added, correct?

Outer walls: Brick Vaneer - double layer OSB 1/2 & 5/8 - 2x4 stud wall wfiberglass insulation - 2" air space - 2x4 inner stud wall w fiberglass insulation - 5/8 Gypboard - green glue - 1/2 Gypboard
I'm building a room within a room.

Great! AndreI'm building a room within a room.
Thanks so much. I'll tweak my drawing a little more!
Care to suggest some estimated treatments?
I plan to put wood laminate flooring throughout.
you could also turn the CR sideways...

How about a sketch of your idea?
I am very new to this (thinking about building a home studio in a garage-type building) and don't know jack about these types of drawings but... 1. Where is the door to your control room? 2. Not interested in eye contact with the musicians in the live room while tracking?I've been tweaking the measurments, trying to maximize the space. 2 questions: 1. Am I missing anything? 2. The Control room will have double sliding glass doors on the Live room side. There will be a window between the speakers looking into the vocal booth. I have started a construction thread here: http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=106331. Where is the door to your control room? 2. The worst thing has happen, I have a new job and can't install sketch-up on my computer!
Oh well, "paint" is just as good
Side ways control room not to scale
Thanks you so much for your design. I have decided to go with Studio Floor plan 4 above. Concrete is down, framing next week!!!!
