Hi all.
After doing the maths, I'm not sure I can finance the concrete-block practise room that I was intending to build in my garden. Instead I have another idea that would cost much less, but I have no idea how much Isolation it would give me.
I would be building a room within a room.
Basically a shed on the outside, Timber Framed outer walls covered with OSB/ply and then 19mm shiplap.
The internal walls + Ceiling would 2x6 Timber Frame with 4 layers of Drywall/Plasterboard + Greenglue.
Could anyone advise if this has any chance of offering enough sound insulation as a band practise room utilising Live Drums? We'd be playing at normal practise volume, and hopefully you could not really hear anything more than 10ft away outside ?
How much Isolation will this give?

Hey Bonker,
You are definately headed down the correct path.
A few things I would change around.
Exterior framing change to 2x6
Interior framing change to 2x4
Exterior two layers of OSB including roof. Make sure your dead loads and live load expectations are rated for the weight on the roof
Interior two layer of drywall with GG
"or"
Three layers of drywall without GG...somewhat cheaper and close to the same rating
And your rock wool is perfect in both walls.
In your drawing it looks like you are planning on making sure your interior room is decoupled from the exterior. Thats perfect. Especially since it also looks like you are doing an isolated slab. Once again perfect
Peace
Tom
Not hearing anything 10 feet away is going to be tough. But you can get pretty close.

I built a room-within-a-room very similar to you. The isolation is incredible.
The lack of interest in my thread is even more incredible, but I guess it's not as interesting as the other drama filled ones.
Ah Hum!!! Sorry for the following 'cross-post'

I, for one (I'm sure of many), was watching your thread with great interest dude!   You don't need drama in your build, trust me I've been through more of that than I'll ever be able to take again. I also agree with you on the next test being internal noise escaping to the upstairs area. Kind regards, Lou. 8) Dudes - So sorry! Long day!  1st comment relevant, second comment ................................different thread. :oops:The lack of interest in my thread is even more incredible, but I guess it's not as interesting as the other drama filled ones.
I am happy to say with my experiene I was succesful. Exterior 2x6 ....T-111 ..1/2" drywall...insulation ( however this way was too much work..cutting individual pieces of drywall between the studs) Interior 2x4 ..2layers ...1/2" drywall...insulation Roof..top side...two layers 1/2" OSB felt and composite tiles Ceiling....(depends)...some room in a room and some to the bottom of the truss with RSIC and hat channel..2 layers 1/2" drywall All inside corners and floor caulked with acoustic caulk No green glue and......... no sound at 10 feet away from building and very little when you are standing next to the wall with the drum kit. Oh hell Lou you are the drama queen here  ...what will we do when you are finished     Peace TomNot hearing anything 10 feet away is going to be tough. Thanks Lou,
I just got the feeling there was no one at the finish line to congratulate me when I won the race, that's all.
Been following yours as well- looking awesome!
