Hi All,
I hope got all my posting details right, Ive read the guidelines, so please forgive me if I forget something.
Overview: The sketchup design I attached is my new place, its a bomb shelter in Zurich, with concrete walls floor and ceiling. the measurements are not right, sorry, but its in the ballpark, I will give more accurate measurements soon. It sounded terrible at first, lots of flutter echo, but with some assorted furniture and stuff, that has reduced amazingly. The stage I am at, is panic :D I have a recording next week, and have to solve multiple problems.
My goal is to make this place useable, in double quick time, and later improve matters.
Loudness: My first gig will be quiet acoustic guitar / singer. Eventually, I would like to get real loud, but thats not an issue at the moment. Neighbours are a rock band rehearsing, in adjacent studio, so not so picky. Im the picky one.
Which brings me to my questions:
1. Soundproofing : I hope you all can see my skp plan, on one wall is an escape hatch, leading to the adjacent studio, plus an air tube, also leading to the adjacent studio. My first problem is to stop the noise coming through these holes in the wall. The hatch has a fairly thick steel door, on their side, so its like an alcove on my side. the tube just goes straight through, I think. Also, there is lots of noise coming through the gap at the bottom of the concrete door, which I tried to show, its on the outside of the wall, if you understand the plan. the gap is 2 - 3 cm, the nuclear door jam, that bolts to the floor under the door, has been removed. I will try to find out where this is, but maybe they only give them back, in case of war! The door is very heavy, concrete and steel, circa 30cm thick, with a good rubber seal, as you would expect, in a bomb shelter! its just the bottom that has a big gap. what kind of reduction might I expect?
Edit : Would this :

be the right way to go for the hatch? I thought I should caulk the hatch on the other side, stuff it full of rockwool (48kg/m3?) close it over, taking care to seal it airtight, is that the right way to go? That way, I avoid the dreaded 3 leaf. what about the tube, same thing?
2. Treatment : How would I go about making it sound good? My plan was to make loads of bass traps, from rock wool, in frames, put them in the corners , few on the walls, lots hanging from the ceiling. the ceiling is very low, I would estimate no more than 2.5 metres high. Is this a good general plan? i can get various weights of rockwool, the make is flumroc http://www.flumroc.ch/ or Isover. Should it be faced in aluminium, or what? Edit: I guess if I have unfaced rockwool, it will absorb more highs, which is probably desirable in my case? What density would be best? would 6 inch be better than 4 inch? How about holes in the frame, will this improve the trap? Sorry if these are vague questions, Ive read a lot of stuff here, but its a complicated subject. Edit : should the ceiling be completely covered in rockwool, all the way to the perimeter, or just lots of clouds?
3. Health : Im a little concerned about health problems concerned with rockwool, ive read the posts about it, but I would like to at least try to hold the fibres in place with a glue spray. What kind of glue can you all recommend? Or would be okay to wrap the rockwool in plastic? I think that would reflect more high freq, is this to be avoided in general?
Thanks in advance, I really hope you guys can help me out here. I know its quite vague, I need to have something that works, and I dont have the time to do a thorough job of research or treatment.
Edit: how the jpg design work? blue wall traps, red ceiling traps, green corner traps ( or would superchunks be better?
Cheers, Morph
