Tips for turning a 10' x 13' bedroom into a mix room?

Plans and things, layout, style, where do I put my near-fields etc.

Tips for turning a 10' x 13' bedroom into a mix room?

Post by filmscoreguy »

So I hope to treat my spare room to be useable as a stereo mix room - as you can (hopefully) see the room is 10' wide, 13' long, 8.2 tall - a standard small bedroom. Hardwood floors, smooth plaster (drywall I guess) all around. The tricky bit is an 8' wide mirror closet door along one wall - its 6.5 feet tall.

The plan is: a heavy curtain (theatre type) hiding the closet door - but still allowing easy access - possibly a curtain along both side walls - so it'll match acoustically. I'll build a 1" or 2" Corning 703 cloud (?) to float above the mix position - maybe 4' square? I'll angle it to vary the q.

I'll need to put some bass traps in the corners, and some heavy duty bass absorption on the wall oposite the mix position (above the sofa)

Am I am the right track? Any other ideas? Thanks!!!!

p.s. sorry for the crappy artwork - I did it in a hurry (can you tell?)

You are on the right track - can you remove the mirror doors and just curtain them as you suggested?/

cheers
