two rooms to put your teeth in

Nice forum you got there I'am really impressed.

I am from sweden so you have to cope with my english.
we are a rock band who have decided to begin to record ourselves.
equipment:
Yamaha aw16g hard disk recorder only 8 input.
Alesis monitor one mkII activ on stands "nearfeilds"
two guitar tube amps "vintage"
bass line or tube amp
real drums
vocals.
rooms:
renting 2 rooms in a music rehearsel bulding, were all rooms been built
by a soundproof company. "so we dont have to worry about being load"
We are not allowed to put nails or screws in the walls.
We have to leave the rooms in the same condition as they were, if we decide to leave.
We are allowed to drill a hole between our rooms so we can put a multi snake/wallbox
through.
Room 1 has more noise in it due to a radiator with water thats porling and theres a sound of a distant generator.
the window is 0.510m width and 1.100m heigth.

How we record:
We record all in the same room using gobos "we cant get feeling with headphones"
only drummer uses them with click.
then we re-record each instrument by it self while listening to the first "feeling take".
So in the end we are using one instrument alone in the room.

To the questions:
Wich one of the room would you use as control room. "see picture"
Were would you put the monitors/gear to get the best result when recording/mixing.
How would you tweak the rooms to get best acoustics.
Thinking about a vocalbooth in the control room . How do we do it without nails and screws.
Also thinking about a drum booth in the rec room. Only to give the drums an enviroment were they sound best.
and so i dont have to move them to find the sweetspot when i'm recording his overdub
No sound proofing. We want to here him on the first take.
the grey sqare in room 2 is a cement/concrete "pole" which produces high pitched tone when tapping it with the finger and putting your ear against it.

Also the back wall at room 1 produces a ton when putting your ear against it and tapping. I dont now if this wall is concrete. It feels very thin but is also very hard not at all as plaster.

i dont need to sit by the window when mixing/recording so the monitors can be put anywere in the room.

I have so many questions.
i try to make short
If you rented this rooms how would you change them to a recording area/studio???
I really hope that you can help me. My brain is boiling because of all the informations i read.

Thanks..

Rock - I'd suggest room 1 for the control room because it doesn't have a pole in it BUT - to build a control room without attaching to any of the walls with nails etc. would require you either build a room within a room construction or you build a series of free standing modules for each room.

check out these two sites:

http://johnlsayers.com/HR/index1.htm

this site has a series of modules you can build and stand against the walls.

Lee has built some of the angled wall units and you can see how he went about it.

yeah i realise that i have to build "free units".
But how many and were do i put them.
are there any frequences to watch out for.

But i dont know if i need to build a new room. I'ts soundproofed you dont hear anything from room 2 when working in room 1 and vice versa.
And were would you put the monitors i cant find a real good sweetspot.

And how about the "live room" should i put slats here or what.

I also dont know the standing waves of the rooms.
if you see the picture at the right you see that the roof has acoustics tiles
54 cm down.
How big is the room when calculating.
sincerely yours.

Rock - the answer to all those questions is available if you read the info on the site.

WE are here to help you, NOT do it for you. If you want me to do it for you - I charge.

Ok sorry john.

You and all the other on this site are doing a wonderful job.
I was only afraid to do something wrong. Waste money and time just to do
things worse.

sincerely yours
