Almost done but...

So we're almost done building our new studio. It has turned out great but unfortunately we have 2 week spots:

1: the door betwenn CR and ISO booth lets through way to much sound. It's a cheap, thin sh*tty door. I've tried treating it with the plates that you use in cars to dampen noise - no luck. Would rockwool on the door be any good?

2: our windows. Same thing - to much spill. I want to build some sort of removeable frames that don't have to sit in the window frames all the time. I thought of gluing Rockwool to an MDF plate which can be mounted in the window frames and removed when wanted to.

Anyone have any better ideas?

Doors need to be heavy and solid, and they need to SEAL completely or they won't work. Anything less is a waste of time.

Yeah replace those doors. I ended up using a pair of wood core steel faced wood framed entry doors with the neoprene insulating strips all around. Mounting them was important so that when shut they seal completely.

Use a double door scheme and you will be happy with the results. Not sure what they cost in Denmark, but we can get them here in the states for about $88.00 to $129.00 a door. NEW.

Or wait till the clearance ailse hits and get them for what I paid.

$25.00 for the 30" w/o windows (my Live room) and $50.00 for the ones with windows (My Control Room)

Deja Vu all over again........

It seems i have seen this before........ however - i'll answer here as well for those whom might be watching this that have a similar problem.

You can not do anything to fix a cheap hollow core door... personally i reccomend replace the door with a good quality solid core door - and then install a good weatherstripping system and drop seal to finish it.

You can make small "doors" for windows - lock em in place with throw bolts - and have good isolation that also allows you the flexibility of having natural light when you want it.

Here is a sketch of a custom iso door i have used successfully in the past - you can improve performance by adding 8psf sheet lead to the interior of the door and covering that with either 3/4" finished plywood or MDO holding that 3/4" inside of the original door edge - which creates another location for a 2nd row of the GM Trunk rubber.
