Hey guys...
Has anyone built the DIY Tube Bass traps floating around the internet? Any good or bogus?
Has anyone used mineral wool or Roxul in a Ready Bag by Ready Traps. It seems that the mineral wool would eventually just crumble into pieces because it is a little pillow-y?!?
Also, in my mix position there is an of center window that is just a few inches from the corner. How would I put a bass trap in this corner? It'll cover part of the window and smash my blinds. Do you have to put a bass trap across a corner?
Tube traps, Ready Bags, and more....

There's a link somewhere on this forum to DIY tube traps.
Further more, a room has more than just 4 vertical corners. Consider wall/ceiling if yer low on space.
Also check out the so called "pannel/pressure traps" which can be mounted on the walls (not corners) and take up little space. There's plenty 'o info on that topic. Check ethan's site (http://realtraps.com/) for more.
As always; this forum is your best resource. Take a day off to read through all of the info here

You are right about the rockwool crumbling. I have put Roxul Safe 4" x 4' x 2' batts into Ready Bags. They work fine for sound absorption, but handling the filled bag can easily start to break up the rockwool inside, making the Ready Bags look lumpy along the edges. The plastic corner pieces help a lot to keep the corners square and turning the Ready Bags inside then rolling them onto the rockwool helps avoid deforming the rockwool. If you handle them carefully and leave them in place, it shouldn't be a problem, but probably a more durable insulation like OC 703 would stand up better to handling.

yep rockwool can be pretty hard to deal with. If you are working with it I would recommend making a wood frame and placing it inside.

I build some(16") using the round pipe insulation.
http://teresaudio.com/haven/traps/traps.html
covered them with fabric from Walmart's clearance rack
they worked out ok. some are cut in half and hanging on the walls. I also had some Aurelux foam and some 703 in 2x4 ft mid-band treatment.
I always wanted to try:
1. stuffing the tubes with insulation or,
2. putting a smaller tube inside the main tube or,
3. inserting three small bass hangers in a few tubes. they would hang from one of the MDF tube covers.
I figure...using a 20 inch round tube(1-2" thick), I might be able to get something like one 12-14" wide hanger and two 6-8" hangers inside a 20" round tube. the hanger length would be cut to the necessary height to fit inside the tubes.
Just ideas in my head.
