Where would you place these panels

Post by scottgirvan »

Hi,
Trying to setup my office for studio use at night. I used the big room to track and then moved everything into the little room (because of a big clutter in my daytime office space.) The small room is very boomy so I want to revert to using the large room to mix. I bought some panel dividers (not for sound but for office use.) Can they be used to benefit the sound? They are filled with pink insulation. I am not fooled to think they will help the bottom end. Just wondering, if I set up the length of the big room (desk to be where the 10' text is there) would it help to put the panels in front of me (behind the speakers) or behind me (covering the windows)

Thanks,
Scott.

If your panels allow air circulation all the way thru, you could put one diagonally across each corner in the room and see how much they help - they would (sorta) act as the thicker insulation used at those locations does, and smooth out the room response in general.

If possible you'll also want more behind you or you'll get early reflections off the rear wall - same with first reflection points along the sidewalls. For side and rear wall panels, try to keep 'em a few inches away from the wall for better midrange absorption.

Keep in mind you're not gonna get ideal sound with this small amount of work, but it'll help... Steve
Soooo, when a Musician dies, do they hear the white noise at the end of the tunnel??!? Hmmmm...

Thanks. Before receiving your reply I set things up. The bass is tighter in this room however it could be better. My stereo image is skewed. I have included three photos, the setup, the overall and a closeup showing the perceived area of center. Any thoughts?
Thank you.
