At my local store they have these for 149. a pair, there active 75 watts biamplified. I tried looking them up they apear to be discontinued, It looks like the earlier version of the bx5a, Do you know anything about these?

I have some gear they were willing to buy I can probaly spend 50 bucks on them.

I tried to google them but most were dead links.

I found them at earth shaking music there selling them for 300.

yeah im pretty much broke, thats why im looking at these I thought they would be better then the dx4 and other monitors in that price range. Some people suggest gettinga sub with these to help with low end, but If I was going to spend 200 on a sub I would just get rpk8s.

I been mixing with 2.1 destop speakers and I got use to them but they do suck, I was thinking if I dont get these monitors just pluging my jvc boombox in to my interface, It has great bass but I doubt its anything close to flat, If I could find a way to use them together I might be able to skip the sub. I dont think there is a way to set the crossover point with it.

I think m-audio has a matching sub for them. if not, you'd need a cross-over unit - a 2 channel w/ sub out - I use a Behringer CX2310 - fairly inexpensive on ebay - has low-z i/o all around.

I have a pair of the SP-5B - old version - and they do OK for $200 powered monitors. without a sub it takes a short time to learn how mixes translate as they tend to roll off very quickly below 100hz. I also have a set of unpowered JBL Control 1 which are similar in low freq rolloff.

I went back and had them hooked up, and my voice sounds like I have a cold, I thought they were pretty good with mid/highs?
I could probaly get use to it, but it defeats them as been used for playing music.
