Maine Studio To Be...

Post by mmilam »

Newbie to the forum... Here's the situation, My father-in-law and I are going to build a studio on a mountain-side in Maine (USA). He already built the house there and will be building the studio on the back of the garage/storage building he will be putting up. The studio will start out as just a hobby for him, but we both would eventually like to be able attract local musicians to rent the studio and our services. The studio building will be approximately 24feet x 32feet. The ceiling is not yet determined, but can be as high as the garage it is attatched to (probably 12-18feet high). I have read through the forums and sae website and wanted to get comments on my initial thought of the studio layout. Wanted a good sized main room and controll room along with a smaller tracking room and a small vocal booth if possible (vocal boot not critical). I would appreciate any comments (I have not put in any acoustic treatments in the diagram. Thanks.

John,

No real problems. I was just looking for any comments(i.e. I should make the larger live room bigger, cut out the vocal booth for more control room space, how high the ceiling should be, or what type of acoustical treatment might work best) Just looking for soem reassurance before we make the leap into construction.

This was just my first thoughts of how to layout this studio and wondered if anyone had any other ideas... maybe someone with a similar sized space. (32'x24').

Thanks for any suggestions. ...And great forum/website John.

well basically you've come up with what we here call the 20 x 20 studio. It's a variation of the corner control room design at the SAE site. Its similar to Cloud studios at my site.

I'm not sure where you main entrance door is but here's an alternate lounge layout giving another door into the studio.
