How big a soffit for my mini mains?

Hey guys,

any general consensus on how large to make the enclosure for my soffit mounted monitors? I'd like to be able to try different speakers with relative ease.

that's really dependent on what speakers you are looking at.

Here's an interesting idea from Joe Egan's studio that allows vertical and sideways mounting.

If you're refering specifically to my soon to be released MiniMain™ 12's, the dimensions are 17" x 19" x 14" (HxWxD).

It seems prudent to keep some flexibility concerning possible monitor placements.

Speaking of building doghouses large enough to accomodate different monitors, what's the best was to fill the space between monitor and doghouse?

I would line the inner cavity with something like 703 - then stuff the remaining volume with flexible fiberglass insulation. Owens Corning has recently come out with an excellent product called Miraflex. It's made of randomly twisted fibers and has superior acoustic absorption properties to regular fiberglass. Also it's much less itchy and irritating!

This doghouse stuff is not easy. I don't completely understand how you seprate your inner and outer frames? Does John do this as well?

I don't think John has any designs specifically like this. I just posted a new image in the design thread to make it clearer.
