Ordinary room to control room....

Post by Geoff Taylor »

Well I finally got my second bedroom back. I am renting so I can make any permanent alterations but just a few touches to make the room alittle or a lot nicer to mix in would be great. Stuff like where I should put diffusers or base traps and hey I don"t even know what to do with my monitors and desk. I have a very vague idea. well back to reading the index for me. Please go easy on the piss poor smart draw drawing. The dimensions are in feet cause that is the only tape measure I could find. The ceiling is 8ft. Thanks

Whoa thanks a bunch. Now to find the supplies. If Blue Bear is around I am curious if you found some good insulation in Ottawa. Thanks a lot John I will let ya know how it works out. It will be my winter project. Peace

As sauceman (also from Ottawa) posted over in the Building supplies forum you can get semi-rigid insulation (and probably other acoustic related stuff judging by their name) at:

Insulcousic

I am very confident I can easily build everything but the Hanger Traps. I am not sure where to start with those. Anyone point me to some examples that would be great. I found all the resources I need just gotta save up the scratch to get them. Thanks for all the help. Geoff

The hanger traps are very easy to build Geoff

check out leftbank

- they are in the ceiling and the rear corners of the control room

Alright one more question and I am out of your hair. Should the hanger traps run from floor to ceiling, half way or a 1/4 of the way down? I see it looks basically like fiberglass stuck to plywood wrapped in batting. Seems easy enough. Thanks again John

It's not plywood - it's soft fibreboard - celotex. and they run floor to ceiling.
