Hello,
We are finishing up adding onto to our house, but we still have the power coming through a temporary meter loop in the backyard, and I don't see the same type of copper wire buried in the backyard like I do below the future (and final) meter location. So, even though the electricity "works" in the new addition, is it grounded? Or will it only properly ground upon final hookup?
My audio components (receiver, cd, turntable, etc) operate normally (in the new space, using a new outlet) but my computer did some weird stuff, so I'm trying to diagnose what all might be affecting this.
Thank you for any thoughts on the matter.
Carter
Is a temporary power meter grounded like the final product?

Look around for a third conductor, either bare copper or green insulated, possibly fastened to a water pipe or any stake driven into the ground; you refer to an addition, but what about your original house panel and wiring; it's possible that whoever wired the temp service may have used your existing house ground (water pipes are valid here) -
If you still can't find anything, buy one of those inexpensive plug-in outlet testers

and if it doesn't show ground being proper, GET IT FIXED. Even dangerous wiring practices will allow stuff to work, they just won't protect YOU... Steve
