Another corner absorber question

Post by NL5 »

Is there any problem with stradling corners with 703 laid horizontally - in other words, 4 feet wide, instead of 2 feet?

Thanks in advance.

NLS,

No there isn't, you can use them as such. Only I never saw them measured that way. I think others didn't as well.
Possibly they better should become thicker than when having them 2' wide.

Panels stradling the corner show 2 absorption phenomena. A resonant absorption followed by some wavelength related absorption.
Hence the reasoning that making them wider simply extends them to the lows, feels as too simple to me.
It also probably makes a difference on the resonant absorption if they are mounted with a space between them or closed (not referring to edge effect but the effect on the mass-spring system)

Only measuring could tell the exact effect.
But you can use them that way. I've used the principle up to 6' with success (huge hall). But only knew the effect as part of a total treatment concept.

I'd agree with Eric.

If you have the floorspace, you can certainly do it. However, the additional thickness is almost certainly desirable (probably 6") not to mention that in addition, it would also take double the amount for the same length of vertical corner since you're only covering 2' of height per pc instead of 4'.
