I see this term a lot here. Seems like this is something I could possibly obtain in my area? What is the retail name for Owens Type 703? The web site was hard to navigate, but from what I could tell it is used mainly for industrial use?
What is 703 dew when its not trapping bass? Will Home depot have any idea of what im talking about?
Owens 703??

Carpwftx,
Owens-Corning 703 IS the name of the product. It's also written as OC703 or just 703. You are correct, HD & Lowes (which carries John Mansville) just stare at you like a monkey doing a math problem when you mention it.
The simplest way to describe it is "semi-rigid" compressed fiberglass. They use some sort of glue or binder (or perhaps just a different weave) of regular fluffy fiberglass to get a denser product.
If you check the Building Materials thread here, you'll find a phone number for SPI in Dallas. You might have an outlet in WF. I believe it is sold in 1", 2", and 4" thicknesses and in 2'x4' panels. I don't know of any other way it's sold. JM has a similar product but I don't off-hand recall the name of it. When comparing products, what you are most interested in is the pcf or "pounds/cubic ft" If the basic material is the same and the pcf is the same (I think 703 is about double the density of the fluffy pink stuff), then you can pretty much consider them the same product.
As an aside, if you CAN score on some 703 in your area at a reasonable price, please let me know. I have no way to get it out here and would be willing to pay you to buy some for me.

Hey there, do some net searching for OC705 or the CertainTeed equivalent. There are MANY places on the net that will deliver both OC703 and 705 to your door.
Good luck!
