Here was a reply from another thread answering to my question:
"On the back of my panels I used a 100% polyesther material that is comonly installed on the bottom of furniture to keep dust from getting inside. It's almost papery in it's texture. It's very durable and is extremely porous. I believe it will contain the fibers no problem. "
So I guess that it is your concern.
Mine was the same: I had to put room treatment (all around) for a quite large voice-over boot and I wanted to be shure thas there was no contaminents or suspended particles in this boot.l
So 1 year after making them and covering the back of theese modules (with 703 inside) (and the back with polyester) there was no complain, no allergies whatsoever.

If you make them for a commercial studio you should check for building code for this area. Usually you should use specific fire retardant covering.Violinman wrote:Hi
Just a question on covers for traps etc.
Sorry if it has been answered before,I have just covered my fiberglass(in frames) with cotton material bought from Ikea.
Should I have bought polyester or Burlap instead?is cotton unsafe to use for some reason?
Thanks in advance

I'm not an expert but if it is for basstraps, the covering is not really crutial, but if you want at the same time mid-high freq. absorbers you'd be better with something like spandex or other fabrics that breahte, otherwise it is OK (unless an expert contradicts me!)Violinman wrote:Hi thanks for the reply,It`s just for my home studio but was wondering if cotton was not as suitable as some other cover for the traps health wise.

Even in a home environment you should use a fire retardant material for any wall coverings or panels. You can easily treat any cotton fabric with a 'wash in' or spray retarding treatment.
Not to be overly paranoid but if you ever had a fire and the insurance inspector wanted to be a jerk, he could recommend non-payment for something like this.
...not to mention the fact that it's dangreous.
