I'm about 99% sure those are magnetically shielded for use close to CRT's - simplest way to find out is get a screen up that's mostly solid blue, then start moving a speaker closer to the CRT - when you start to notice the color go "blotchy", back away 2-3 inches. This won't hurt the CRT - every time monitors cycle their power, they do an automatic degauss cycle.

If you ever have NON-shielded monitors you want to put close to a CRT, all you need is a steel plate that's about the size of the side of the speaker box; put the plate between the speaker and the CRT, and you will be able to move them within an inch or so of each other without problems.

What this does is to "re-align" the speaker's magnetic field along the axis of the steel plate, so it doesn't affect the electron beams as much... Steve
