Sound Absorption panels?

Post by INDECISIVE_2000 »

Hi, I am building sound absorption panels for a small vocal booth. I have got 1" fibreglass that I will layer to make 3" thick panels. I plan to hang these panels 4" off the wall. My question is what kind of material should I wrap these panels in. I have access to a furniture manufacturer so I was hoping I can get something from them and not have to pay. I know they carry the muslin fabric which is quite transparent. How is cotton? what should I look for in the Fabric? Is there a specific kind to get? I know the fire rated stuff is quite expensive so that is out. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

The dimensions of the room are roughly 8x8 and I'm looking for a fairly dead sound, so I'm looking to cover most of my surface area.

Acoustically, anything you can breathe through will work; aesthetically, a heavier seat covering fabric would look better and show less wrinkles/dirt -

Fire wise, how much is a life worth? (You're asking a guy who's seen two people turned into poorly cooked marshmallows BTW)

Here is one source of fire retardant spray; for your application, probably 1 or 2 cans of this should do -
