Hello,
I need to know if a good tupe trap front wall like the ones from
http://www.asc-studio-acoustics.com/
in which the speakers are built in it has the same good effect like a soffit mounted speaker?
Is it ok if I use cotton for the traps? I can buy alot of these traps cheap
but they are filled whith cotton. Do you think this will be enough for bass
absorbtion? Tale a look at the picture and you will see what I mean..

Probably not, because with a real soffit the front surface is rigid and massive.

Why are they so cheap? Is the seller unhappy with them?

Hi Ethan,
the seller is happy whith them, but they have used them in the recording
area not in the control room. I thought that it would be a good idea to use them in a control room for a front wall. Is the bass absorption enough if I stack 3 towers each built out of 2 tube traps stacked together in the edge?
In the middle of the front tower I will then put my Dynaudio BM6a between the 2 tube traps. Every tupe trap is 1 m long and has a radius of 40 cm...
I will choose this method because of the transportable situation and I don´t know how long I can stay in the studio. If I built something fix
I can´t remove it and have to throw it away If a have to leave the spot.

they are home made but built after the asc design. I will stack them
in the room corners and I think it will give me some good results like if I use a cloth angled bass absorber in the corner or? I have to pay $780 for the 16 pieces 1 m and 40 cm radius. I think the price is really good for
that price I can´t built them by myself cause only the material is more expensive. What is your opinion should I do this or should I buy a new monitor? I can´t use my Dynaudio in a soffit wall because they are rear ported bass reflex system. I thought it would be a good idea to use them between the tube traps because maybe that will not destroy the sound to much? Or do you have an idea how I can use them in soffits?

Several of our members have soffited rear ported, rear passive radiators, etc, and have been very happy with the results; this is at least partly because the soffits force the speaker into half-space radiation for lows, boosting bass effectively by 5-6 dB - in fact, NON rear ported speakers need a 6 dB shelving filter on the lows to REDUCE the perceived bass.
You might try surrounding your Dynaudio's with plywood or MDF sheets to SIMULATE soffit mounting, and see what you think; that would give you a GENERAL idea of what would happen... Steve
And no, tube traps won't replace soffits. However, for that price they would probably come in handy for spot treatments in general. Stacked in corners would help smooth the room in general, although full corner absorption with rigid fiberglass or rockwool would work better.
