Hello all,
Great forum..I've been lurking for last few days.
I have a small project studio above my garage.....It's a weird shaped essentially 28 feet by17 feet with sloping ceilings that start at 4 feet and slope to 10 feet at highest.
I have hopefully attached a smart draw layout...I apologize in advance for it's crudeness(My first time with smart draw)
I've learned to work with the room setup fairly well...I'm on my 4 th album project this year..record mainly indie rock/bands.I have Lenrds in the corners and some homemade 703 panels on the walls and bladed foam at the "control " end of the room. The live/Drum end is mostly untreated(sometimes I will setup a packing blanket behind the drum kit.I suspect the room need some "real" bass traps.
I'm not sure I can really redesign the room from ground up at this time but would like some advice on optimizing my setup, particularly in regards to desk/mixing orientation, drum setup, acoustics,or any fairly easy to implement design ideas or suggestions to improve the room.
Also the floors need to be replaced and I'm thinking of going with hardwood floors and pulling up the carpet...Pros/cons?
Thanks in advance
Rivers

Welcome to the site Rivers. Your layout looks to be correct for that shaped room, you have a nioce angled ceiling above the mix area. The flat ceiling at the 10' mark should be treated to break up the floor/ceiling standing waves. I'd heavily treat the rearwall of the room possibly with a treatment which will also break up the parallels like angled slots. This will also tame the drum recording area.
Where you have the 703 panels it would be beneficial if you could also break up the parallels with some of the wall units I've detailed here

Thanks again John...
By treat the Ceiling do you mean along the lines of bass trapping or more like diffusors?...would the ceiling be a good place to hang bass traps?
Currently there are some large movable gobos along the rear wall... but I gather you are suggesting some of the angled reflectors along the rear wall and also on each side of the mix position(where he 703 panels are currently)?
Any other problems with the room you would be wary of given the sloped ceilings?
Also any comments on hardwood flooring in this room?...I would be likely be using some throw rugs as well.
