Insulation in 1-sided wall

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Insulation in 1-sided wall

Post by Billins »

Sorry if this has been answered before but I'm not finding it. When you construct a wall with sheerock on only one side, what are you doing to hold the insulation or rockwool in?

If you mean a double framed wall with both outer sides paneled, you do a complete fill with slight compression so it can't go anywhere, and so it damps the panels to control ringing - with just one frame, or too much air space, you can fasten lath to the inside of the frame so it keeps the insulation batts against the panels (damping again)...
