hi all,
this is my first post and i am looking for some specific advice on absorption for my small room, which i primarily use for mixing and some quieter recording. i have only started to think about absorption for the first time this past week, so my knowledge is very limited. please excuse my ignorance, i just wanted to see if i could get a little help for my specific situation for now.
i recently had the opportunity to get some absorption panels that were in a home studio, the owner of which studio recently passed and his wife sold me a bunch of panels and foam corner traps of different sizes and types. i'd like to get the best possible treatment out of what little i have for now. cause i am pretty flat broke! even if the amount of absorption will be very little, i'd appreciate any advice on optimizing what i have, which is:
4 wood frame panels, 3.5' w X 4' h X 2.5" d, stuffed with some dense yellowish fiberglass and covered with a densely woven black material, maybe burlap. the material is sealed air-tight into the frames, which are backed by plywood. these panels are part of the walls for what used to be a drum isolation booth.
question #1: i'm assuming these are not thick enough for low frequency absorption? and if so, is the best place for them in my room at my sides, for early reflection absorption?
I also got 2 of those very dense foam corner wedges - about 3 ' high and 1' wide on each side, and 2 of the rippled foam corner wedges (LENRDS). plus various other little bits of rippled foram which were in his control room.
question #2: since i only have 4 of the bass trap foam pieces for now, is it best to stuff the corners facing me at the mix position, or in the corners on the wall behind me?
i do have the opportunity to go back and get probably 6 more of the wood panels from the isolation booth, so if anybody can verify that they'll actually make a difference in my edgy sounding, low frequency confused room, i would GREATLY appreciate it!!
hopefully the diagram has loaded properly.

or if not, my room is:
- 10' w X 15' d X 8' h
- there is a skylight about 2' behind my ears at the mix position, and it is about 2.5' cubed all around. is this thing a major problem for this room?
- my monitors and i are at the north end of the room.
- 19" behind the right monitor is a window, and 19" behind the left is a wall.
- there is a door at the southwest corner, so i can't put any foam traps there, except for a small tri corner one perhaps.
- the south wall also has a closet, so i can't cover that wall with the panels.
thanks for your time and any help you can offer,
