Inside out wall fabric...

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Inside out wall fabric...

Post by jatougas »

Hi folks -

Is denim a good choice of fabric for the inside out wall construction?

Should work OK - you should, however, seriously consider applying a fire retardant chemical to any cloth that isn't already spec'd that way - one place to get this online is at

Denim, with its relatively tight weave, would probably keep the room just a bit brighter than a more open weave; this is usually a GOOD thing, so no biggie... Steve

Burlap looks really nice. You have to double layer it otherwise you can see thru it - but it's dirt cheap.

You generally should look for a fabric which is accoustically transparent. Denim in general would impress me as too heavy and tight a weave. Although there are no doubt denim-looking fabrics that are lighter and looser than the stuff used for pants.
