Rockwool & Owens Corning

Hi.

I'm going to shop for insulation here, but unfortunately I can't found any Owen Corning 703 which often referred by recording studio builders.

There are only rockwools available in my city. The vendor said that it came in 3 types according to their densities, which are (he said) 60, 80, and 100.

I don't know what that numbers mean. Can anyone, who has any experience with rockwools, share any thought? How does it compare to the 703s?

P.S. I'm still looking for the 703. BTW I live in Bandung, Indonesia. And I'm going to find the 703s in Jakarta, the capital.

Ari - the numbers refer to the density. As you are in Jakarta can you access australian products?? We have a product called Insulco Semi-Rigid which is actually better than 703. Try your airconditioning suppliers, they may be able to access it.

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll try to find that Insulco Semi-Rigid. Is it the same material as the 703s?

But in case I can't find any, would Rockwool can be used as a substitute? The room which is going to be treated is the control room. Can I use the 60 Rockwool Density, or is it not enough absorption? Budget constraint.

The rockwool will work if you can't get insulco.

The frk, & asj have a foil (I think) coating on the surface - notice how the high end absorption is lower on both these types. The foil is also acting as a panel absorber hence the increase in low end absorption.

that's what I mean. The low end numbers are better but you lost on the mid, top end. (inside-out walls) So would the plain better? Or a combo of 1 & 2 inch(3in) of the FRK 703?

I checked for it at lowes(2nd Job) but I may have to order it from Home Depot

I can see what you mean - possibly - I'd like to know what the high frequency respose was though - it could be all over the place and create more problems.
