Which barrier would be more soundproof?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Which barrier would be more soundproof?

Post by memocn59 »

Hi, I´m considering two options in order to isolate CR from the noise generated in the LV. Both of them are based on the Two leaf principle:

Option 1:

15 cm Brickwall
15 cm airgap (leaf to leaf)
2x6 wood studs (filled with insulation)
3 layers of 5/8 drywall (this is 5cm of drywall)

Option 2:
15 cm brickwall
5 cm airgap (filled with insulation)
15 cm brickwall

In general terms, which is these two options would be better at soundproofing in general terms. Based on what I have read, the second option would be better because it has more mass but the airspace is less.
