soundlock

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Hey Steve,

I was reading your replies on the post air cavity, thats' great information I can say. Hope you have remembered me you have replied me on homerecording.com/bbs also. Surprising for you ane me i havent' knew the word sound lock and years back when me and my uncle constructed a studio we just left a corridor to enter our three different studios, the heavy doors were sealed off using weatherstrip and we treated this corrdior like that :

wondering is it working some how like a sound lock or not

Sure, although it could probably be improved by sawing a slot thru the brick in a couple of places and putting acoustic caulking back, separating the adjoinging walls physically without giving a sound path... Steve

Actually, if the walls are already built and you still need more isolation between two of the areas that are served by the soundlock, the easiest way (and it's not that easy) would be to re-install at least one of the two doors using soft materials between the door frame and the wall, of course making sure that the entire interface between door frame and wall is acoustically caulked on both sides.

Is this already in use, or are you in process of building?
