I am moving house and I would like to transform the garage and the adjacent room as a music production studio. I would like to make the garage as a live room where I have guitar amps and drums (loud sources), and the other room as a control room for playback and low level music playing (where I'll have the computer).
I was thinking about soundproofing the garage only and only treating the other room only for improved acoustics. The rooms are made of limestone walls, marble/cement tiles and concrete ceiling. In the garage there is a beam to support the main bedroom veranda. I would like to leave that area untreated. At the moment it is separated with an aluminium partition which I may have to replace. The partition would also isolate the sheet metal garage door from the actual studio. I could remove the floor tiles in the garage. If practical I would like to open up a window between the 2 rooms. If it is not practical I'll use 2 cameras and 2 monitors.
The loudest instrument I have is the Drums. Cannot test the sound level in the room as I am not yet living there.
The garage is a 1 car garage, but bigger than the other room. The other room is a regular sized bedroom. Under the garage floor there should be limestone rock bed, but under the rest of the house it is a 2-3 story deep quarry that has been filled with limestone offcuts.
How should I approach this job? What materials would I need?
