Live/Drum Room Layout Help

Post by Gregwor »

Hi,

I'm getting a house built with studio spaces being my main focus. For my live room, I'm getting a 3 car garage built and going to build out the 2 car area as a live room. As you can see in the pictures, the live room will be ~29 feet long (after I build another wall in front of the garage door) by ~21 1/2 feet wide (I'll build a staggered stud wall between the single car bay (where my wife can park her car) and my drum room. The ceiling height (depending on if I can find some more money) will either vault from ~9 1/2 ft up to 15 ft or money permitted, ~10 1/2 ft up to 16 ft. I did my best to get the room to land within the bolt blob.

I'm hoping to get some opinions on how I should frame the shape of my drum room after I do by best to sound proof it's "square" shape. Furthermore, I'm hoping to get some opinions on which walls should be entirely broadband vs diffused. I will have a hard floor surface and plan to have the entire ceiling as absorption. Aesthetically, I'm hoping to have a really cool looking room with no parallel walls. Initially I thought about having a "dead" side and a "live" side to the room but talking with many engineers, most seem to prefer less lively drum rooms so I'm probably leaning more that way.

I've including two pictures I took with my phone. One is clearly labeled with the room dimensions from the builder. The other is one I traced out by hand to show you how I'm going to build a sound lock. I've also drawn in a 2 ft wide bass trap in the corner to show myself how big the space will feel in my head.. just ignore that.

Also, I'm open to all criticism and looking to learn. I've read a ton but am humble and don't want to make a major mistake in the design.

Thanks in advance friends!

Greg
It appears that you've made the mistake most people do. You started building without consulting this forum.
