Floating floor on existing carpet?

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Floating floor on existing carpet?

Post by JohnGardner »

Do I need to rip up the existing carpet to expose the particle board flooring or can I just float my new floor on top of the carpet (sure would be easier!!)

Carpet is a great breeding ground for all sorts of nasty things - to partially quote from "Ghostbusters", it breeds molds, spores and funguses - also mites, etc - in short, it's a very BAD idea to put anything permanent over carpet... Steve
