Permit Question

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Permit Question

Post by mrtomcat »

Hi there,

I am building a drum room in room, the base room is on the ground floor and 110 sq ft I am not planing on ay electrical work just staggered walls, drywall outside and inside and Roxul Sound and Safe in the center.
From what I read I do not need a permit, however I want to ensure everything is done properly...better safe than sorry.
I am confused on the type of permit i need to apply for since I am not altering the house, I am simply building a small room in a room
Based on the permit web site for Los Angeles I cannot find a proper entry.

Can anyone point out what type of permit, aprox cost for this type and best approach on getting this done?

Much appreciated

Just what you can or can not do depends on exactly where you live. There are national rules, state rules, city rules and sometimes special rules that only apply to part of the city.
It's the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) that turns rules into laws and enforces those laws.

Very true, Kevin! And there are also forum rules, which mrtomcat seems to have overlooked... :) So, mrtomcat, please read the forum rules for posting (click here). You seem to be missing a couple of things! :)

When I made my above post, I missed the sentence:

* * * * * * * * * * *
Maybe someone that is in LA can help with the city building department.
