Caulking Acoustic VS "Regular"
Can I use regular DAP caulking rather than the acoustic type? What benefit do I get by using the $6 or $7-a-tube stuff? What pitfalls will I encounter by using DAP or regualr window-sealer type of caulking??
Thanks For The Advise -

Acoustical caulk can be found at most building supply companies.
My supplier sells it for $4.51 a bottle and it works
it stays pliable. will not crack or harden. as Aaron said

just got 20 tubes of sheetrock brand acoustical sealant yesterday for $4.66 /tube + tax from Capitol Acoustics here in Atlanta, but you can probably order from their site www.capmat.com if you can't find something in your area.
It really doesn't seem that much more expensive, remember these are the BIG tubes (29 oz.), not those regular tubes (10 oz.) so you're basicly getting 3 times as much as you might think. It might work out to about the same cost anyway.

Actually, the only kind of caulk that might be able to "keep up with" acoustic stuff is the GE Silicon II, which runs around $4.50 a tube for 10 oz - so for the same price you get almost 3 TIMES as much, and it actually WORKS. The only thing you're out is a bit of legwork; and since you'll be using a TON of the stuff, the price difference alone will buy you a new toy or two for the finished studio... Steve
