Soundproofing my home studio

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Soundproofing my home studio

Post by antx »

Hello,

I m going to begin the soundproofing of my home studio.

For the moment, it's like this:
house2p.jpg
The 2 rooms have the same dimensions: L: 4,7m (15,4feet) l: 3,8m (12,4feet) H: 2,75m (9 feet) under the beams

There is a small road 7 (2m) feet in the front of the windows.....sometimes there are cars or tractor...and speed is limited to 18mph (30km/h)

I would like to record drum (110-114db)without ear this cars and without too disturb my neighbourg (their house is 5 feet (1,5m) behind my stone wall)
I can hear the neighbor's dog barking and the little birds

I was thinking perhaps to reach a 60db of attenuation.

I would like to resolve 4 problems:
house1p.jpg
1: Closing the passage between drum room and kitchen (with a wall and acoustic door window)
2: Improving the soundproofing of the window (perhaps with a second acoustic window)
3: Closing the passage between drum room and "mixing" room (with acoustic door window or 2)
4: Improving separation of the floor between my 2 rooms and between drum room and road...When I stick my ear to the ground, i can ear the cars on the road.
house3p.jpg
The exteriors walls: 23 inch (60 cm) of stone
Wall between 2 rooms: 8,6 inch (22cm) of brick
Ceiling in earth and beam

I've made a color code:
yellow: 2 inch (5cm) of polyurethan foam
dark grey: 2 inch (5cm) of anhydrite screed
mauve: 2,7(7cm) inch of glass wool with 13mm wallboard

The mauve walls are ever two leaf walls....so i could made another wall in front of but it will becoming three leaf walls...
I don't know if there is problem with my stone wall.....perhaps can i just doubling my windows

I also can doubling all the wall of the drum room with 2 layers of gyps and add acoustics doors and windows....but stay the ground and ceiling....(suspended ceiling?, Floating dry floor?)

I have 5000€ for this.

Can you help me please?
Thanks

Hello,
I would like modify my rooms soon.
I ve read instructions and tried to respect them if i have all understand.
Say me if i have forgot something.

For the moment i think doubling the 3 walls of the recording room:
- wall on the road side with a second acoustic window
- wall between the recording room and studio with an acoustic door window
- close the wall between recording room and kitchen and add an acoustic door window.

All doubling will be composed by wool and 2 layers and will be decoupling of the floor and celling.

The ceiling with beams and the stone wall will not doubling at beginnig because i think it can be good for acoustic.

If soundproofing is not enough, in second time, i wiil doubling the stone wall ...and next the ceiling...
And if it s not enough to stop vibrations, i will can make a dry screed on the existing floor.

Excuse me for my bad english.

Thanks for your advices
