15ft × 10ft x 9ft recording/mixing room build questions.

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

15ft × 10ft x 9ft recording/mixing room build questions.

Post by VipulNigam »

Hi everyone,
I'm new here, forgive me if i do something wrong.
I have a spare room in my house which is of the dimensions 15ftx10ftx9ft. Im planning to get that room sound proofed and acoustically treated.
I have some questions that have been bugging me, please help!:
1) The room is a dualbrick and concrete wall structure (9 inch thick) on all sides, no one lives below us, but neighbours live above. I was wondering if i would need the classic roxul filled room within the room construction done for this room, or would getting it perfectly air tight do the job?
2) What about the door (this will be the only weak link, as i plan to seal the room completely),
Would a 1.25 inch solid wood door with proper sealants and air tight do the job? Or should i spend some cash and get a dedicated acoustic door? -which is kind of pricy here in India.
3) My mom wants a window there in case i shift she doesnt want a room closed on all sides., and agrees that it may be sealed with dual layers of thick acoustic glass. BUT WONT THAT CAUSE PROBLEMS AS MY WORKSTATION WILL BE RIGHT NEXT TO IT? (WORKSTATION PARALLEL TO THE LONGER LENGTH AND WINDOW TO THE LEFT WHILE LOOKING TOWARDS THE WORKSTATION.) i dont want any reflection issues, even though i plan to put up diy broadband acoustic panels.

Hi. There is an announcement at the top of the forum about what to do to assure getting as many responses as possible.
The announcement leads to this post (click here). Actually, several people, who are experts on this forum, will most likely not reply if you don't do what is written in that post. Many others who are very helpful, will most likely not reply out of respect for the moderators' wishes.

That is probably the reason why you aren't getting any replies on your thread.
