Sealing a brick wall

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Sealing a brick wall

Post by troutstudio »

I have an interior garage wall with a lot of little gaps in the mortar. Prior to adding drywall, what's the simplest way to fill them? Cement and then expanding foam around the beams? Thanks.

Dealing with a similar thing myself, and about to embark on sealing it up too.

From the forum and other advice I've received, the best option appears to be rendering the inside of the wall - a mix of good render with something like bondcrete to make sure it sticks and stays airtight.

Don't use expanding foam around the beams - it's expansion is all gas bubbles and isn't necessarily air tight or flexible. Best to render close to the beams leaving a small 5mm gap, then filling the gap around the beam with acoustic caulk once the render has set.

Hope that helps
