Questions about Sound Diffusion??

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Questions about Sound Diffusion??

Post by Mike808 »

Hello all

I would like to start by saying what a journey this my studio build has been and Sound-man and John have been a huge help threw it all! I really do appreciate all the help! I have been taking photos and will be uploading them in a new post very shortly. The reason for my post today is I would like to know what type of diffusion is the best for my control room? the back wall is about 80 inches wide or 6 1/2 feet. I would like to see the diffusion panels at least 2 feet tall maybe even 3 feet. So all in all i would like to see 2 panels 3 foot by 3 foot. I have up loaded a recent picture of the control room as well please let me know if any more info is need to get the correct answer. I have also uploaded pictures of Sound diffusion panels i would like but do not know if they would be the correct ones for my situation. Thanks again!
Michael

What's the distance from the back wall to the mix position? Also, what are the dimensions of the room (Length, Width, Height)?

In order to determine what type is best, and even more importantly, what frequency range to tune it to, you should run a REW analysis on the room, and post the results here. That will reveal what the acoustic problems are with the room, then we can suggest ways of fixing them.

the distance from the back wall to the mix position is roughly 9 feet. i have attached the dimensions of the room in a photo. I will test the room tomorrow. Is there any free software to download to test with ? I would like to add i have already put up acoustic panels some of the walls i will label them in red for you in the photo. I would like to add that i want to out the diffusion panel on the very back wall right next the the door. Thank you

"REW" is "Room EQ Wizard". You can download it for free from the Home Theater Shack website. You have to register there, but registration is also free.
