In the coming weeks, ground will be broken on a new house my wife and I are having built. The basement is going to be unfinished for the time, but the builders are going to frame it for us. So before things get going too far, I'd like to figure out the eventual layout of the basement so it can be framed with a future studio in mind. It's not a huge house, but I'm hoping to at least end up with a room that I can have reasonably accurate monitoring in.
My Studio Needs:
- mostly mixing and editing
- isolated from bedrooms upstairs to be able to mix and not be too disruptive
- room for some guitar amps and a drum set
Given the size limitations, I'm not going to expect to get a great sounding reverby room. It's going to be on the smaller side, so I'm figuring the best bet is to go for a dry sound.
Things to note:
- The plan shows two bedrooms but we're only going to have one
- 8' ceilings, I don't think 9' is going to be possible
- I've read through the Rod Gervais book
- I was using a 1x1.4x1.9 room ratio to get the general room size, and tried to fit that into the plan, though I assumed a 7'6" ceiling height initially to acount for ceiling isolation, though I now think that's maybe lower than it would end up
- the main air duct goes along the the hallway just inside the storage area in the original plan and most likely will have to remain there
Here are the relevant sections of the house plans:
Here is my idea, it was traced so should be pretty close to the correct dimensions:
Any suggestions and help would be welcome, thanks!
