Recording studio build Challow Park

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

Recording studio build Challow Park

Post by Challowpark »

Hello , And Thank you for a great and informative Forum.
I am currently constructing a studio in oxford uk , I have been building for a year now and am just reaching the fitting out stages , there is a complete diary of the build on my Facebook page . https://www.facebook.com/ChallowParkStudios . I thought it would be a good idea to start a Thread here as I will have a number of questions over the next few weeks and this will enable me to upload a few plans etc so as to provide as much information as possible to those kind enough to help , Anyways thanks in advance I shall upload some floor plans shortly . Is PDF a valid image here ?
All best Will

Hi Will, and welcome to the forum!

Looking through your diary so far, I did notice lots of mud! And dust... and concrete. Fun stuff!

How far advanced are you right now? From what you say, and from what I saw on the diary, it seems you have the concrete shells in place for the rooms, and a bit of treatment, but not much. I'd really suggest that you take the time to run some REW tests in all of the rooms without any treatment in them, so you have a baseline acoustic record of how the rooms are behaving, at their worst. That will reveal everything about them that needs treating in the initial stages, and also serves as a reference point for each time you install a round of treatment: as you progress, you can see what is working, what isn't working, what still needs doing, and what simply cannot be fixed at all.

If you don't know how to use REW, then let me know and I'll post some basic guidelines about how to do that.

It's a really good idea to have that baseline data.

It would be great if you could post some very recent pics here on the forum, showing where you are, and also some info about the place: your goals, expectations, etc. Plans, drawings and sketches would be great, too! The mor info you give us, the better we can understand it, and the better we can help you!

Yup! PDF is fine as an attachment, and most graphic formats can be placed in your thread, in-line, and will appear inside your posts. (.jpg, .png, etc.)
