Mid/high panel side holes

Post by Alexandr.L »

Hello everyone!

I need some help with a that question: i start to build mid/high frequency side walls (first reflection) sound absorption panels. It will be 10cm deep (3.9 inch) and filled with 5cm (2 inch) of Rockwool Acoustic Batts (45 kg/m).
Is its good/bad idea to cut some holes in side part of the absorption panel?

I know that air between mineralwool and walls increases the efficiency of low frequency absorption, does holes changing that rule?

I'm a little confused. Can any one help me please?

Are you talking about cutting holes in the frame of the acoustic panel, or the panel itself? If you are talking about the frame, then yes, it is a good idea to cut holes in the frame, so that more area of the panel is exposed to the air.
