Hello,
Im building a metal plate absorber as a part of my dissertation, similar to RPG's modex plate, but im designing it to be put into the corners of the room,
How much do people think making the metal sheet a triangle rather than a rectangle will affect its absorption?
I know they do the modex corner panel but its not metal and doesn't have great absorption around the 100 - 200hz mark..
Any thoughts?
Many Thanks
Ben

you need enough surface area of the absorber to be effective. also, a modex type absorber might not be fully effective in a corner as opposed to an anti-node on a flat wall. i'd suggest a rectangular panel unless you're trying this into the tri-corner and even then consider making it at least 1 m2 area.

Hi Glenn,
Thanks for the reply,
As this is based on small rooms, do you think the metal plate design would be inaffective due to the 1m2 size you recommend? (measured up it looks quite big for small room purposes!!ha)
Could you recommend a reactive/resonant panel thats broadband (broad across the low frequencies 50 - 200hz, not tuned so much) and would suit a corner of the room, trihedral or not? Is this just a case of dampening a panel absorber?
Many Thanks
Ben

Also,
Sorry to pester!
What do you think the consequences would be if you bend the metal into a curve?? Does this effect is absorbtion??

Re: Metal Plate Membrane Panels
i'm think it might reduce the absorption but who can say for sure without testing it. thin enough it might behave like a poly...
