quick double leaf construction question

How thick should my walls be, should I float my floors (and if so, how), why is two leaf mass-air-mass design important, etc.

quick double leaf construction question

Post by jamesway »

Hello all, I'm a freshy. I wanted to know if using this design for a wall would negate the purpose of the two leaf with air gap design. Using a 2/6 for frame and attaching 2/4 studs alternating from inner to outter. The two leafs would not be in direct contact with eachother, the only direct connection being the base and top of 2/4 studs into frame.
This is roughly what I'm talking about if I wasn't clear.

Do you mean like the 5th, 6th and 7th examples here?

http://www.saecollege.de/reference_mate ... 0Chart.htm

As you can see by that chart, there are better ways for not much more money - full separate frames, for example -

Hope that helped... Steve
