hi everybody
I'm marco from italy, sorry for my english!
I'm trying to build some DIY panel absorber for the walls...
and I know that something like fiberglass 5cm with density around 50kg/m3
is a good starting material for absorption in a large spectrum of frequencies.
but all the tutorials I've seen show only fabric covering over the fiberglass panel
and I know the mineral wool is not healty product (inhaling particles = cancer!!!)
so is there something like cellophane or other light plastic materials that let me bagging the fiberglass???
does this possible covering reduce the coefficient of absorbition of the panel so much???
or may it's not influential????
thank you everybody
Marco

Re: panel absorbers
Actually, that isn't true.(inhaling particles = cancer!!!)

Re: panel absorbers
thanks for the reply
anyway I think that we cannot be so sure (i'm really scared about that !!!!)
but it seems that there are different opinions even about
the role of additional plastic covering:
it's an error?
it's ok?
may be we loose only very high frequencies absorption?
someone suggested me to use polyester fiber instead of fiberglass
can it be a valid option???
really thank you for patience

Re: panel absorbers
For now, the fiberglass question is answered but truthfully, any small particles you inhale and embed in your lungs is probably not good. So whether you go with cellulose based or mineral based, you should plan on using proper safety gear during the work and use common sense methods of trapping particles using plastic, cloth, binders, etc.
Dacron or polyester insulation is useful on hangers and perhaps behind rigid insulation in corners or other large cavity spaces. Check the acoustic data from the manufacturer to compare with other known products.
