General Acoustical goals for single room tracking / mixing ?

Post by coachz »

Hi, Can you guys tell me a bit about what the measurable goals need to be achieved for a large room < 1000 sq ft that will be used for tracking and mixing rock and roll?

Just in generality, what kinds of things are needed ? specific RT60 times, frequency response measured at different places etc?

Thanks for enlightening me.

Regards,
John

some ideas to consider as a baseline before compromising:

- Satisfies: Louden, Bolt, EBU, and IEC control room criteria
- Background Noise: <= NC20
- ISD: >= 20ms
- First Reflection: >= 12 dB down
- Monitoring Level: 85db
- Modal Distribution meets Bonello in 12 out of 13 1/3 octave bands
- Frequency Response: +/- 6dB from 20Hz to 20KHz or better
- Acoustical Symmetry: +/- 1db or better
- Distortion (room): <= 1.5%
- Isolation: >= STC 50
- RT60 (or equiv): 400ms for CR (+/- 100ms all frequencies), 400ms-2200ms for live room (variable)
- Electrical Noise: none
- Subjective: clear, excellent imaging, crisp, tight, quiet, no flutter echoes, good visibility, good workflow
