Get better acoustics for my studio

Post by xaviFarre »

Hi all, I'm Xavi i'm have a questions about my studio acoustics...

I design it before know the fantastic forum and I made mistakes, I want correct it.

My controll room is W. 12.25' L. 18.30'' H. 8.50'.

All corners have basstraps with 5" of rockwool of 50 kg/m3 but I know that I need change it for a superchuncks, but my question is for the superchuncks is better leave the front only with the fabric or better put plywood for don't absorb too much high frecuencies? I don't know why have this deeps in the mids?

For the side walls, I have a plywood wall cober with fabric and only a panel absorber for first reflection point of the speakers, is better construct a helmholtz resonator in all the fabric place? Work's the helmholtz if I put a box glued to the plywood walls that are to 8" to a concrete wall? It's the best solution for me? For what frecuencies I tuned it?
And the wool what's better glued to the slats behind the fabric or glued to the plywood wall?

Somebody can help me or give some ideas for get better acoustics in my studio...

Thanks and best regards!!!

You have not show the position of your speakers in those diagrams, so it is impossible to say for sure, but to me it looks like your first reflection point treatment is in the wrong place. Also, please post each of those photos separately, as it is really hard to figure them out, all jumbled together like that!
All corners have basstraps with 5" of rockwool of 50 kg/m3 but I know that I need change it for a superchuncks,
How big are the existing panels, are the placed diagonally across the corners, and do they run from floor to ceiling? If so, then they should be doing OK just like that. Superchunks might give you some improvement, but probably not a huge amount.
I don't know why have this deeps in the mids?
Could be modal issues, or it could be speaker problems, or mic, ... what speakers and mic did you use?
and only a panel absorber for first reflection point of the speakers,
What don you mean by "panel absorber"? Or you talking about a sheet of plywood over a sealed cavity with absorption inside? If so, then what frequency is it tuned to? In any case, using a panel absorber for first reflections isn't a good idea. It would be much better to replace that with some deep absorption, such as 6" of fiberglass or rockwool.
is better construct a helmholtz resonator in all the fabric place?
Slot wall! That would be an excellent solution, and would probably take care of many of those problems.
And the wool what's better glued to the slats behind the fabric or glued to the plywood wall?
What do you mean by "slats behind the fabric"? Do you already have a slat resonator back there? If so, then it isn't working, since putting fabric over the front of any Helmholtz device is going to mess up the way it works.... If you already have slat resonators, then take off the fabric!

Also, it would really help to have an accurate SketchUp model of your room, showing exactly how it is built, so that we can figure out where your problems might be, and what to do about them.

Hi Stuart, I'm Xavi Te escribi tb en el foro en español!!!
The posicion of the speakers are showing in the photos, inside the desk! Are Genelec 8020 and a Beringher ECM-8000....
The basstraps of the corners are two layers of roockwool in diagonal and floor to ceilng, one layer roockwool 125kg/m3 2" and one 50kg/m3 2.75", I don't know that's 125 don't work for bass!!!

The helmholtz have the wool in the first midle of the box? slats-fabric-wool-air-backwall?

Thanks Stuart, sorry for my english!!
Best regards
